Last Kiss

CHORUS
Oh where oh where can my baby be?
The lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven
**So I've got to be good
So I can see my baby
When I leave this world
We were out on a date
**In my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, straight ahead,
A car was stalled the engine was dead
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right
**I'll never forget the sound that night
The screaming tires, bustin' glass,
The painful scream that I heard last

CHORUS

When I woke up the
Rain was pourin' down
There were people

**Standing all around
Something warm runnin'
Through my eyes,
But somehow I found
**My baby that night
I lifted her head,
She looked at me and said,
"Hold me darlin' just a little while"
I held her close,
**I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that
I knew I had missed
Well, now she's gone,
Even though I hold her tight
**I lost my love,
**My life that night

Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
Although the story told in here is sad, it can be funny (not the disaster, please) depending on your students' profile. There are more than one suggestion for working with it.

See them below and use 'em in your classes.
Suggested Activity # 1

1. Play the song but don't give students the lyrics yet.
2. Ask them to tell what they think the lyrics are about.
3. After getting some answers, distribute the lyrics and have students to understand the song by answering the questions:

a. How many people were there?
b. Where were they?
c. What did they see in the road?
d. What caused the accident?
e. What happened when he woke up?
f. What did he say to the girl?
g. Summarize the song in a few words
.
Suggested activity # 2

1. Type and print the lyrics without the sentences marked with the asterisks.
2. Tell students they'll listen and complete the song with the missing sentences.
3. Students listen to the song and and fill in the blanks.
4. In pairs, students discuss what the song is about.
5. When they finish, elicit some story they may have heard, read or seen about an accident like this.

Suggested activity # 3

1. Type the lyrics with the past and perfect forms of the verbs transformed into the base form (e.g.: took her away => to take her away).
2. Give students the lyrics and ask them to read the song and complete it with the correct form of the verb without listening to the song yet.
3. As they finish, play the song and have students to check it.

Suggested activity # 4

This one is especially useful for the courses that adopt the New Interchange  (CUP) series, especifically vol. 3, unit 4.
1. Repeat the procedures given on Suggested activity # 2 until step 4.
2. When students finish, put them in pairs and set the following task:

Transform the song into a newspaper article, describing the events that happened in the song, using the past and perfect tenses. Remember this will be a narrative.

3. When students finish ask them to expose their article and vote the best one.
